  • The first Daesoon Volunteer Group came back home to Yeoju on Aug. 8 after the two weeks' of volunteer work in Ethiopia, Egypt and Turkey from July, 26 to Aug. 8. In his welcome speech, Seongam Yun Eun-Do asked the volunteers to play an important role on account of increasing chances to go abroad.

The volunteers achieved four good results at home or abroad. First, they attained the practical assessment for joining the UN. Secondly, the network involving public and private organizations was successfully formed. Lastly, they could acquire appropriate information on international relief programs with know-how and set a good example for the young members of Daesoonjinrihoe guiding a new direction.

On arriving, the Daesoon Volunteer Group were given a heart-felt welcome by the residents who gathered at the soup run. Director Seongam Baek Seung-Yeon greeted them with a smile and started work in a friendly atmosphere. On the second day, the group worked in full swing providing the residents with more sophisticated and systematic programs. KVO showed its gratitude that the volunteers offered practical help to the Ethiopia branch under KVO

The volunteers helped serve food for 500 children. Other volunteer work regarding education includes physical training, medical check-up, and farming. The well-repairing, the fence-making for soccer ground, the soup run-painting were followed in order.

They also visited needy families in the neighborhood and console them. In addition, the volunteers traveled through the unpaved roads to a remote village located at an altitude of 2,500m for hours to learn the accomplishment of international farm aid. In spite of the short period of volunteer work, the members and the locals were emotionally attached. They shed tears keeping their fingers crossed that they look forward to seeing each other again.

With many members' concerns and encouragement, the volunteers held a ceremony to disband the group. The dojang staff and the laity joined the event to praise them for their hard work. In the ceremony, all the participants enjoyed the film on volunteer activities and expressed sympathy sharing their feelings and experiences. Followed by the briefing session, they suggested a direction and vision for the next term and looked forward to the second volunteer group wrapping up the ceremony of disbanding.
