Virtuous Concordance of Yin and Yang

All beings and things in the universe, including Heaven and Earth, exist through the principle of yin and yang, such as ‘heaven and earth’, ‘day and night’, ‘male and female’. The Virtuous Concordance of Yin and Yang involves the integration of each virtuous quality in a balanced and harmonious manner, where yin and yang maintain an equal relationship known as the ‘Equal Balance of One Yin and One Yang,’ and each element plays its proper role respectively, which is known as the ‘Correct Yin and Correct Yang.’ Although yin and yang possess opposing qualities, they complement and depend on each other. In conclusion, through the perfect harmony and balance between yin and yang as described above, ideal and virtuous blessings eventually arise, which are referred to as the ‘Virtuous Concordance of Yin and Yang.’

The harmonious integration of yin and yang represents the principle of creation, change, and development of all things in the universe. It also serves as the principle of harmony for human civilization to achieve peaceful balance and progress. However, in the Former World, yin and yang were governed by the principle of Mutual Contention, preventing them from integrating their virtues properly. Consequently, disharmony arose, resulting in various disasters in the Three Realms and causing the entire world to be filled with unnecessary grievances and grudges. The Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth, carried out by Sangje, were a significant reconstructive event aimed at resolving these grievances and grudges, leading to the harmonious integration of virtues between yin and yang. This ushered in an era of Mutual Beneficence, where all things in the universe would exist in harmony with one another.

Harmonious Union between Divine Beings
and Human Beings

The ‘Harmonious Union between Divine Beings and Human Beings’ refers to the harmonious coexistence that enables both divine beings and human beings to achieve their ideal transformation. Just as Heaven and Earth undergo changes through the interplay of yin and yang, divine beings and human beings also harmonize with each other in the dynamic of yin and yang to facilitate transformation. Within the context of yin and yang, divine beings represent yin, while human beings represent yang. As recorded in The Scripture of Yin and Yang in the Jeon-gyeong (Progress of the Order 2:42), their relationship is characterized by harmony through Mutual Beneficence, wherein divine beings depend on humans, and humans are guided by divine beings. Every action and movement of humans can be influenced or inspired by divine beings as there is no place beyond the reach of divine intervention. Furthermore, ideal transformation for perfect beings cannot occur without the harmonious integration of the virtues of both divine beings and human beings. The ideal world, where divine beings and human beings achieve perfection, is known as the ‘Era of Human Nobility.’ Through this process of cultivation, this era is gradually being opened up. In this era, humans are bestowed nobility as the divine beings responsible for the operations of Heaven and Earth reside within them. As a result, humans are paired with corresponding divine beings according to their levels of cultivation, exerting themselves in various affairs with corresponding authority and power. In the Era of Human Nobility, humanity emerges as the primary agent leading the next chapter in the history of the universe.

Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence

The ‘Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence’ is a fundamental principle in the Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth, aimed at opening up the Later World. It focuses on resolving grievances and grudges accumulated in the Former World. This process, known as the Resolution of Grievances, enables the realization of Mutual Benefit (sangsaeng) throughout the three realms: Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. ‘Grievances and Grudges (won)’ refer to failed altruistic and sublime aspirations as well as personal resentment that arise from inequality, discrimination, and oppression. In the Former World, the principles of Mutual Conflict governed humans and all things, causing grievances and grudges to accumulate and fill the three realms. Consequently, Heaven and Earth lost the Constant Dao, leading to various disasters and making the world a dreadful place. Since time immemorial, accumulated grievances and grudges between humans and spiritual beings overwhelmed the three realms, ultimately bringing the entire world to the brink of annihilation. To resolve these grievances and grudges, Sangje conducted the Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth, eventually revealing the Dao of Mutual Beneficence to humanity. Through the practice of cultivating the Dao of Mutual Beneficence, all forms of calamities and misfortunes caused by grievances will gradually cease to exist, leading to the achievement of eternal peace and harmony in this world, known as the ‘Re-creation of the World’ or an ‘Earthly Paradise.’ The practice of the Dao of Mutual Beneficence involves the entire process of resolving all grievances and grudges, addressing conflicts and resentments among humans, between humans and divine beings, and among divine beings, ultimately fostering mutual beneficence.

Perfected State of Unification with the Dao

‘Unification with the Dao’ is achieved when one correctly realizes and properly cultivates the Great Dao of Mutual Beneficence of Sangje (the Supreme God) leading into Guarding against Self-deception and the Renovation of Human Beings. Through this process, when all grievances and grudeges are resolved and the mind becomes as clear and clean as crystal, divine beings resonate with human beings, achieving mutual harmony and unity. This is Absolute Spiritual Enlightenment or ‘Perfected Unification with the Dao.’ Achieving Unification with the Dao enables one to see through the three realms of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity clearly, thoroughly understand the principles of all things in the universe, and have the ability to do everything as one pleases. The sage who achieves Unification with the Dao becomes free from all worldly desires and distractions, attains immortality, and his wisdom brightens to encompass the past, present, future, and universe of ten direction. At this stage, he becomes an earthly immortal being. Even the natural environment surrounding humanity is free from disasters of water, fire, and wind, transforming into an earthly paradise where auspicious signs flourish.

Creeds

Creeds are the prerequisite conditions that Dao cultivators have to follow
to achieve the aims of Daesoon Jinrihoe.
The category of Creeds consists of
Four Cardinal Mottos’ and ‘Three Essential Attitudes.’

Four Cardinal Mottos

Quieting the Mind

The mind controls your conduct and behavioral functions. You should return to your innate conscience which is unbiased, unselfish, authentic, and pure so that you are not lured by others into vanity or distracted by futile desires either mentally or emotionally. Above all else, you should always quiet your mind to attain your ultimate goal.

Quieting the Body

The body manifests mental phenomena. You should conduct yourself in accordance with lawfulness and propriety and adhere to ethical norms. Furthermore, you should not act out of vanity, as doing so is contrary to righteousness and propriety.

Reverence for Heaven

Being careful in all of your actions, you should never forget – even when you are asleep – to keep your mind focused on worshipping Sangje. Aware of Sangje’s omnipresent closeness, you should never neglect your duty to revere Him and devote yourself to Him with utmost sincerity.

Cultivation

You should deeply settle your body and mind, then gather your spirit in close attendance to Sangje, refining this spirit-energy in your danjeon (elixir field). For the purpose of attaining ‘Absolute Spiritual Enlightenment’, you should continually recite incantations with utmost sincerity, cultivating singular-focus in reverence of and devotion to Sangje.

Three Essential Attitudes

Sincerity

You should contribute to the transformation and salvation of all beings by absolutely enlightening your mind-spirit upon the realization of ‘the Dao is the self, the self is the Dao.’ The mind controls and governs the whole body, so whatever makes you think, worry, move, or stay still is solely a product of your mind’s activity. Everything exists if you believe it exists, and everything doesn’t exist if you don’t believe it exists. Sincerity means having a mind that is constantly meticulous, with no gaps or pauses, and is solely fearful of its own insufficiency.

Respectfulness

Respectfulness is to act according to propriety in the movements of the mind and body.

Faithfulness

Once you have made up your mind, you must not alter, modify, or deviate from it due to considerations of profit or loss, truth or falsehood, bias or dependence. Do not refer to “one” as “two”, and do not refer to “three” just because of how it appears. Do not refer to “that” as “this”, or “front” as “back”. Maintain a constancy like the unchanging cycle of the four seasons and day and night that have endured through the ages. Be as immovable as the mighty rivers and mountains that have stood firm for eons. Advance steadily, keeping in mind that there will be specific deadline and limit in the future. Proceed continually with utmost sincerity until you achieve the goals you have set. All of these underlying and fundamental qualities required to achieve a goal throughout the entire process are what we call faithfulness.

Aims

Daesoon Jinrihoe has six aims, which are organized into pairs.
The aims within each pair are interconnected.
These aims provide the best description of our identity
and the most comprehensive summary of the vision of Daesoon Jinrihoe.

Being Free of Self-deception – Re-creation of Inner-spirit

‘Being Free of Self-deception’ signifies restoring the innate essence of human nature by abstaining from self-deception. Deceiving oneself is equivalent to deceiving one’s innate conscience; furthermore, it is a deception of the divine and Heaven. Within the heart, there are two dispositions: conscience and self-interest, the latter, which is triggered by the desire for material possessions. It is through the practice of ‘Being Free of Self-deception’ that one restores their conscience without being swept away by self-interest. The ‘Re-creation of Inner Spirit’ is possible when we genuinely help and sincerely harmonize with one another. By doing so, we can achieve complete ‘Mutual Beneficence’ and reach the state of ‘Being Free of Self-deception.’ The ‘Re-creation of Inner Spirit’ can be manifested through spiritual cultivation, where mental strength gradually increases and opens up to a new dimension of inner spirit. To achieve the ‘Re-creation of Inner Spirit,’ one must engage in daily self-reflection and properly practice the teachings of Daesoon Truth, thereby restoring their innate conscience—the essence of human nature endowed by Heaven. The ‘Re-creation of Inner-spirit’ naturally leads to ‘Being Free of Self-deception’, and one must attain this state to achieve Enlightenment in the Dao.

Realizing Earthly Immortality – Renovation of Human Beings

Earthly Immortality represents the ultimate ideal of humanity sought through the practices of Daesoon Truth. Through spiritual cultivation, a person who attains the ‘Re-creation of Inner-spirit’ and achieves a harmonious union with corresponding divine beings is referred to as an Earthly Immortal or a Dao-empowered Sage. ‘Renovation of Human Beings’ involves becoming Human Nobility (Injon) suited for the Earthly Paradise of the Later World by practicing the Dao of Mutual Beneficence and improving one’s character and constitution based on ‘Being Free of Self-deception.’ When Human Nobility is realized, one’s wisdom becomes clear gaining insight into the past, present, and future, as well as the Three Realms. Furthermore, one lives as an Earthly Immortal achieving eternal youth and immortality in this life rather than in the afterlife.

Creating an Earthly Paradise – Re-creation of the World

Earthly Paradise is a world of peace and harmony, where human beings and divine beings coexist through virtuous concordance and harmonious union. This realm, illuminated by the Dao of the ‘Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence,’ is where Earthly Immortals dwell. In this world, all under heaven become one family, governing all beings in accordance with divine laws through harmony, without the need for authority or punishment. Natural disasters of water, fire, and wind disappear, and auspicious signs thrive, creating a heavenly paradise on earth. The ‘Re-creation of the World’ refers to the transformation of the former world, dominated by mutual conflict and on the verge of annihilation, into a peaceful and harmonious world of Mutual Beneficence for all humanity through Sangje’s Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth. This signifies that through the Daesoon Truth proclaimed by Sangje, eternal peace in harmony will be established throughout the three realms. In other words, the ‘Re-creation of the World’ leads directly to the construction of Earthly Paradise.
