- 2016-06-28
The Religious Affairs Office of Yeoju Headquarters Temple Complex and Korea International Volunteer Organization(hereinafter KVO) agreed to support relief activities by setting up a sisterhood relationship on Nov. 21. Ha Seong-Su, Chair of the KVO, and Director Yang Hyeon-Suk joined the agreement ceremony with Chief Director, Seongam Yun Eun-Do, Director of the Planning and Management, Seongam Baek Seung-Yeon, Director of the General Affairs, Seongam Kim Gyeong-Geun and Director of the Training Dept., Gyogam Gwak Dong-Seop.
Starting from this agreement ceremony, Sangje's virtue will spread throughout Africa for the first time in history. In addition to that, the first international relief program is now officially implemented. Next, this agreement between the two bodies is our first International Cooperation Agreement, which is a major driving force for Daesoonjinrihoe to propagate Sangje's virtue worldwide. Especially, by establishing a mutual agreement with the international organization on special status endorsed by the UN, Daesoonjinrihoe is expected to acquire positive assessment from the UN.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Chair Ha of KVO introduced its activities and history followed by briefings on its ongoing relief programs throughout the world. KVO is an organization of Special Consultative Status officially designated by the UN. For such organizations are endowed with authority to participate in policy-making of the UN and their affiliated organizations. Thus, KVO has a global influence. In this context, Chair Ha promised to actively support Daesoonjinrihoe's joining the UN and cooperate with it in terms of international relief activities.
In return, Seongam Yun expressed his gratitude for their support and emphasized on the cooperation in African relief programs in the future. The ceremony was conducted in friendly atmosphere, yet, Ha informed the attendees of adversity and serious conditions of Kisumu, Kenya. According to him, 80% out of the entire population suffers from AIDS or HIV. Kisumu has as many war orphans as up to 80% out of the entire AIDS patients. The situation is indeed worse than that of the Korean War. These days, there has been a report that the African children are extremely starved due to the wars and skyrocketing price of crops. Kimusu is a region which Secretary General Ban Ki-Mun keeps an eye on with worries, saying Kimusu is one of the three slum areas in the world. Ironically, Kisumu was once long-lost hometown to US President Obama.
Accordingly, Seongam Yun promised to start a well-digging program and feeding as well as send relief items for an immediate relief at the end of the year to propagate the doctrine of resolution of grievances and mutual beneficence.
Afterwards, the working level consultation started with the talk regarding 'Daesoon Springs' to be set up in Kisumu, which is expected to provide 3,000 residents with drinking water. The plan particularly needed a very careful approach like the toil for oil because the process takes place 300m underground. Also, the feeding program named 'Daesoon Dining Table' has been discussed since elementary schoolers suffered from perpetual hunger caused by a severe drought. As for the relief items, each Bangmyeong(Daesoonjinrihoe regional branch) under Daesoonjinrihoe decided to plan a specific schedule after collecting the items together.
KVO was founded by Chair Ha Seong-Su in order to give the provision of health care for the Bolivian natives living in poverty in 1988. Its aim is to help developing countries with support of medical care and welfare. With the cooperation of the UN and NGOs, this prominent international NGO works on culture, environment and sustainable development to contribute to the world peace.
