On May 14, the city of Jeongeup designated the birthplace of Sangje (436, Sinwol-ri, Deokcheon-myeon, Jeongeup-si) as local cultural heritage number 22 in Jeongeup City. This designation was formally announced to the public. Designation as a local cultural heritage site refers to both tangible and intangible sources of cultural heritage at either the city or county level. The birthplace of Sangje will be called the 'Birthplace of Jeungsan, Kang Il-Sun.' The site was recognized as a cultural heritage site after the consideration of evaluations by scholars which noted the historical and cultural significance of Holy Teacher Kang Jeungsan. The official approval of this site (which was not clearly defined previously) is greatly significant because it creates opportunities for Daesoon Jinrihoe, a religion with faith in Sangje and basis in Daesoon Thought, to become socially recognized and more widely known.
