On January 28th, 2022, a non-Korean Daesoon Theology student at Daejin University, Jason Greenberger, was invited by a noted scholar of religious diasporas, Caodaism, and Catholicism, Professor Thien-Huong Ninh, to provide three guest lectures to her students at Santa Clara University. The courses taught by Professor Ninh which Jason presented at were ‘Ways of Understanding Religion,’ ‘Buddhism,’ and ‘Buddhism in America.’ Jason created two separate presentations- one titled Reflections on Being Religious & Working with Daesoon Jinrihoe, Buddhism, & East Asian New Religious Movements and the other titled The Role of Buddhism in Daesoon Jinrihoe & Strategies for Understanding ‘Buddhisms.’
Jason’s presentations helped introduce students to the historical figures Kang Jeungsan, Jo Jeongsan, and Park Wudang and as well as the representative doctrine of the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence. As the students in these courses have familiarity with Buddhism, Jason also mentioned the role of Maitreya in Daesoon Thought, and the significance of Buddhist figures such as Jin-muk and Jin-pyo. Towards the end of the guest lecture, Jason mentioned Yeoju Headquarters Temple Complex’s temple stay, pilgrimage, and museum, and invited interested students to contact the international affairs team for more details.
