On May 23, the 4th Joint Academic Conference, co-hosted by Daesoon Academy of Sciences and the Institute for Asian Religions, was held in the International Conference Room of Daejin Education Hall at Daejin University under the theme "Boundary-Making of 'Religion' in Modern Society." The conference brought together leading scholars representing domestic religious studies, including Professor Choi Jong-sung of Seoul National University, Professors Jo Hyun-bum and Han Seung-hoon of the Academy of Korean Studies, and Professor Ryu Seong-min of Hanshin University, to engage in discussions. This conference broadly addressed core issues facing religion in modern society, such as the public legitimacy of religion and welfare practice, social discourse surrounding religious categorization and criteria for inclusion and exclusion, and separation of church and state along with the limits of state intervention. Serving as an interdisciplinary forum bridging research across various fields such as religious studies, history, and social welfare, it was a meaningful event that presented scholars of religion with academic tasks to analyze modern religious phenomena, while prompting religious practitioners to reflect on how faith engages with society and the meaning of its responsibility.
