Original Play Sweeps Grand Prize, Best Director, and Best Actor… Advances to 2027 Emerging Directors Exhibition by Korean Theater Directors Association

Daejin University Department of Acting Arts' original play won three awards—Grand Prize, Best Director, and Best Actor—in the INCUBATION category at the 34th Young Theater Festival.

With this Grand Prize win, was selected for the "Emerging Directors Exhibition" hosted by the Korean Theater Directors Association in 2027, laying the groundwork for its advancement into the official professional stage. Student Jeong Hoon (Class of '21), who directed the play, received the Best Director award, while actor Jeon Chan-hyeong (Class of '18), who participated from the project planning stage and played the role of 'Jona,' won the Best Actor award.

The award-winning work is a purely original play motif-inspired by the Iranian hijab protests. Tracking the death of 'Amesha,' who was found dead after going missing, it incorporates the Medusa myth to address issues of women, society, violence, and silence.

Advising Professor Hwang Yeon-hee said, "This is the fruit of our curriculum in which students embodied their perspectives on contemporary society through their own theatrical language," adding, "I hope this serves as a meaningful starting point for them to move into the field."
