Lee Jeong-bin, a second-year student in the Department of Acting Arts at Daejin University, has received the Grand Prize, the Minister of Education Award, at the 21st Geochang World University Theatre Festival for directing A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream was performed on August 17 at the Suseungdae Festival Theatre in Geochang, and was selected as the winning production at the awards ceremony held on August 19 at the Rose Theatre of the Geochang Theatre School.
The 21st Geochang World University Theatre Festival featured universities from across Korea, with intense competition beginning in the preliminary rounds. The productions that advanced to the finals received high praise from the judging panel for their outstanding level of theatrical completion.
Against this competitive backdrop, the fact that a second-year student took on the role of director and won the Grand Prize at a national-level theatre festival is particularly significant. It serves as a notable example of the educational achievements of Daejin University’s Department of Acting Arts, which places strong emphasis on students’ creative capabilities and practical stage experience.
This award marks another major achievement for the department, coming just two years after it won the Grand Prize at the 19th Geochang World University Theatre Festival with Hamlet.
