  • Missouri Blues: Multi-faith Visit to Missouri University
    As an interreligious dialogue project, there was a special lecture on new religions at the University of Missouri Columbia Campus on November 3rd, 2017. The event was co-hosted by the Department of Religious Studies, the Vietnam Institute, and Asian Affairs Center at MU. Here, Daesoon Jinrihoe from South Korea, Cao Dai from Vietnam, and CESNUR(Center for Studies on New Religions) from Italy made presentations and introduced their religions and institution. The three delegation groups consist of the following people: Daesoon Jinrihoe LEE Tae Yeol, director of religious research and edification department, Daesoon Jinrihoe LEE Gyeong Won, professor and dean of the department of Daesoon Theology, Daejin University CHA Ik Je, head of international affairs team, Daesoon Jinrihoe KIM Dong Hwan, staff at international affairs team, Daesoon Jinrihoe CAO DAI Reverend Thuong Canh Tranh, President of Cao Dai Overseas Missionary, Nguyen Tan Khoa from New Orleans, Louisiana CESNUR Massimo Introvigne, director of Center for Studies on New Religions Rosita Soryte, Lithuanian minister counselor The special lecture on November 3, 2017, was attended by more than 150 students and faculty members of MU. It was a great and successful opportunity to introduce Asian New Religions such as Daesoon Jinrihoe and Cao Dai to the West. Also, the event was much more pleasant as we had best friends Mr. Massimo Introvigne and Ms. Rosita Soryte, who are always giving advises and helping Daesoon Jinrihoe on its work for globalization, and Rev. Tran Canh and Mr. Nguyen Tan Khoa, with whom we have been in continuous contact and found out that we share a special connection in our religious and spiritual journey. The lecture was proceeded as the following schedule: 1:00 – 2:00 pm – Prof. LEE Gyeong Won made a presentation on Daesoon Jinrihoe Religion. About 150 students from the Department of Religious Studies were in attendance. 3:00 – 4:00 pm – In a seminar titled “New Asian Religions in a Globalized World”, Director Massimo Introvigne, Rev. Canh Tran and CHA Ik Je made their presentations for twenty minutes each in front of about 50 faculty members of MU. In addition to the lecture, for five-day visit to MU from October 30th to November 3rd, the Daesoon Jinrihoe delegation spent meaningful time with faculty members of MU and other delegation groups, such as having discussions on how to make further cooperative activities that would help us spread Asian new religions and culture to the West. We give special thanks to all faculty members and students at Missouri University including professor Signe Cohen of Religious Studies department, Professor Joe Hobbs of Vietnam Institute, Director Kim Sang of Asian Affairs Center, who welcomed us with warm hospitality and showed interest and enthusiasm to learn new Asian religion by asking many questions about new religions and Daesoon Jinrihoe. Daesoon Jinrihoe is planing to expand this lecture event to other major universities in USA in cooperation with Cao Dai and other religions that may join us.   • Chiseong to celebrate the147th Gucheon Sangje’s Descension
    On November 7, or September 19 in lunar calendar, thousands of disciples came to Yeoju headquarters temple complex to attend Guchen Sangje's Descenscion Chiseong, which is one of the biggest Chiseongs in Daesoon Jinrihoe. It is held to celebrate the day when Supreme God or Sangje of the Ninth Heaven descended into human world as a human being named Jeungsan Kang in Jeolla-do, Korea in 1871 to reoder the whole universe and open an Earthly Paradise where the ideas of Haewon and Boeun Sangsaeng(resolution of grievances and grateful reciprocation of favors for mutual beneficence) are realized. The day also coincided with the seasonal Chiseong to celebrate of the beginning of winter.

  • 2017 Chuseok Chiseong
    Chuseok(harvest festival or Thanksgiving Day) is one of the two major national holidays in Korea along with the New Year's Day. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar on the full moon. Like many other harvest festivals around the world, it is held around the autumn equinox, i.e. at the very end of summer or in early autumn. As a celebration of the good harvest, Koreans visit their ancestral hometowns and share a feast of Korean traditional food such as songpyeong and rice wines such as sindoju and dongdongju. In Daesoon Jinrihoe, Chuseok Chiseong is held at 1 am before the morning of Chuseok day in Main Sanctuary Building (Bonjeon) at Yeoju headquarters temple complex. In the pictures below, participants are waiting in line to get in the building and attend Chiseong ceremony. After Chiseong is over at around 5 am, they head to their home to attend morning Charae ceremony with family members or visit ancestral graves.

  • Vietnamese Vico Land Corp. Visits Daesoon Jinrihoe
    Chair Bui Duc Long and four other people from Vico Land Corp. situated in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, visited Daesoon Jinrihoe. They came to tour the Daesoon Welfare Foundation, Bundang Jesaeng Hospital in turn for 4 nights 5 days from April 30 to May 4. The visitors had a meeting with the Daesoon Jinrihoe movement regarding the fields of education and welfare. As for education, the two parties discussed international exchanges between high schools and dispatch of university students. About the welfare side, they agreed to support active volunteering of in the mid-northern part of Vietnam, known to be a vulnerable area. Daesoon Jinrihoe also promised to counsel the Vietnamese party about the construction of welfare facilities for senior citizens and hospital will also continue. VICO Land Corp. is dedicated to undertaking colleges while managing four construction companies international primary and secondary schools such as Hue Star School in the southern part of Hue Province. In addition, the corp. provided 10,000 apartment units for lower income families and spend 10% of their profits for charity and relief every year. Meanwhile, on April 13, 2017, Chair Yoon Eun-Do of the Daesoon Welfare Foundation was invited to Hanoi where the headquarters of the VICO Land Corp. are located. Daesoon Jinrihoe signed the MOU in order to vitalize welfare services and cultural exchanges between the two parties.

  • 2017 Religious/Cultural Field Trip
    The initial religious/cultural field trip began on April 26, 2017 in front of about 100 executives. Director Seongam Kim Wuk of the Academic Affairs Dept said at the welcome ceremony that he hoped the participants would learn a lot from the field trip so that they could be a stepping stone for the world propagation. The Daesoon Hanmadang Pungmul team performed at the welcome ritual ceremony to wish for happiness and peace for the audience. This year, the religious/culture field trip continues to tour Chungcheong, Gyeongsang Province, Busan, Hwayang Valley, Mandong Shrine, Bangu Pavillion, Doju’s birthplace, Hoeryong House, Disciple Kim Byeong-Mun’s house, Mt. Cheonma, and Gamcheon Town for 2 nights 3 days with the topic called ‘Retracing Doju’s footsteps.’ 504 people applied for the five field trips in total.
