- Daesoonjinrihoe Offers Help to Taean-gun for Cleaning up the Oil Spill
About 2,000 high ranking officials affiliated with Daesoonjinrihoe Yeoju Headquarters Temple Complex helped clean up the oil spill at Beodli Beach around Hwangchon-ri village in Wonbuk-myeon, Taean-gun on Jan. 5. Riding the 45 large-sized buses, some full-sized vans and cars, they left Yeoju around 6am and arrived at Hwangchon-ri at 9:30am. After getting off the buses, the volunteers walked to the spot near Hwangchon-ri village for 15 minutes. In the village, there was a control tower where Director of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mun Won-Gyeong and Mayor of Taean-gun, Jin Tae-Gu greeted the high officials and the laity. They were told where and how to clean up and went down to the beach taking protective clothing and absorbent mats along. The participants started cleaning up the beach from 10am with protective clothes on. Using towels and cloths, they wiped up oil residues and turned over the marbles and sand to gather oil lumps. This process was repeated without a break in spite of repulsive odor until the time of high tide. Thus, they grabbed snacks like cup noodle or rice cake for lunch. Approaching the high tide, the collected oil lumps and residues were carried to the tractors and the trucks. Despite the rising tide, the participants worked until 4pm and finally retreated from the beach leaving a sense of regret. Even though it was a short time, they devoted themselves to cleaning-up feeling worth of helping others. Moreover, they kept their fingers crossed that the Taean residents live a normal life and the beautiful scenery is restored as soon as possible. The idea of providing a help for Taean-gun was brought up by a hundred of people from the youth group and women's association in Yeoju Dojang after their visiting Taean to help cleaning-up on Dec. 14. Meanwhile, the officials in Yeoju Volunteer Center participated in volunteering by offering coffee and tea for the workers. Daesoonjinrihoe has prioritized relief work for the victims of unexpected disasters like floods and typhoons. In addition to the aid for the people in need, we have actively taken part in a nature conservation campaign and the activities relating natural purification.
