  • Pocheon’s First Subway Line to be Built Near Daejin University
On January 29, 2019, the Subway Line 7 (Okjeong – Pochen) Extension Project, which was proposed by Pocheon City, has been selected as an exemption budget project for the balanced development of Korea after it was reviewed by the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development and discussed in a Cabinet meeting. Previously, Park Yun-guk, the mayor of Pocheon city, and various civic organizations in Pocheon had been making the case regarding the need for a subway line in Pocheon while also publicizing the other hardships faced by the city. As the decision has been made to build a subway line in Pocheon, the city will no longer be the only city without subway in its metropolitan area and will now be able to reemerge as a new city that is connected via subway to other influential areas. Also, it is expected that when Pocheon subway line is built, the time to travel from Pocheon to Gangnam, Seoul will be shortened from 2.5 hours to 1 hour, and the city will create new city complexes in the influential areas near the subway. In particular, three universities in Pocheon, including Daejin University, and many working laborers in its industrial area will benefit from this improvement in railway service. The Dobongsan-Pocheon railway project will extend the subway line 7 to Yangju Okjeong area, Soheul eup, Daejin University, and Pocheon City Hall. The construction is planned to start in the second half of this year and achieve completion in 2024.
