  • The Scriptures: Daesoon Jinrihoe
Today we are pleased to announce the recent publication of the English translation of 'The Scriptures: Daesoon Jinrihoe.' This collection of three scriptures is made up of 'The Canonical Scripture,' 'Essentials of Daesoon Jinrihoe,' and 'The Guiding Compass of Daesoon.' 'The Canonical Scripture' recounts the birth, life, divine actions, and passing into Heaven of Kang Jeungsan as well as the life and ministry of Jo Jeongsan. Additionally, 'The Canonical Scripture' records many of the sayings and teachings of both figures. The remaining scriptures are separated into two volumes, 'Essentials of Daesoon Jinrihoe' and 'The Guiding Compass of Daesoon.' The former is a concise account of Daesoon Jinrihoe’s doctrines, central beliefs, cosmology, worldview, and orthodox religious lineage, and the latter provides guidelines and instructions for both clergy and laity to follow in the context of Daesoon Jinrihoe’s sacred community. The English translation of these scriptures is well-suited to a large variety of readers including the faithful, scholars, and the curious. We recommend readers who have previously read the scriptures in their original Korean or as translated into Japanese or Chinese to consider the value of reading this English version given the numerous special features unique to this edition. A short list of some of these features are as follows: 'The Canonical Scripture' * a 284 page dictionary (including photos, illustrations, tables, diagrams, maps, etc.) * a 40 page index that connects special terms to their appearances in 'The Canonical Scripture' as well as in the dictionary a short introduction titled 'Reading The Canonical Scripture' by Asian Studies Specialist, Professor Don Baker 'Essentials of Daesoon Jinrihoe' * footnotes with clarifications not found in previous editions * an attractive design featuring dozens of beautiful photographs and paintings 'The Guiding Compass of Daesoon' * footnotes with clarifications not found in previous editions Copies are highly limited at present but many more will be printed in the near future.
