  • The Annual Sheaf Burning Event was Held on the First Full Moon Day of the Golden Dog Year
Daesoon Jinrihoe held the annual sheaf burning event in Bamgol, which is located next to the grand sports field of Yeoju Headquarters Temple Complex. About 1,000 disciples and local residents participated in the event. Before the main event, they played traditional Korean folk games such as kite-flying, Korean badminton (jegichagi), arm wrestling, and a traditional Korean board game called “yutnori” and also made food-offerings such as fish cake soup (eomuk tang) and ear-quickening wine (served on the first full moon day of the lunar new year). Starting with a gilnori (road game) performance at 5:30 pm, Daesoon Hanmadang folk music team performed a pangut exorcism and jishin-babgi (stepping on the spirits of the terrain). During the sheaf burning, which is the main event, the participants made wishes in their minds while walking around the burning sheaf. Just like last year’s event, magnificent fireworks embroidered the night sky of the first full moon with colorful flames. One of the participants who lives in Gangcheon-myeon gave his impression of this event remarking, “Every year I join this event with other villagers. I am always thankful to Daesoon Jinrihoe for working hard for our community and providing cultural events like this one.”

  • The 25th Daesoon Youth Winter Camp Ended in Great Success
The 25th Daesoon Youth Winter Camp at Daejin Youth Training Center, which began on January 2, 2018 and ended on January 20, was regarded as a great success. The camp was divided into seven different three-day-long sessions to accommodate a variety of age groups as the camp spanned students ranging from fourth graders to high school students. The theme of the camp was “Do not disregard the beneficencebestowed upon you,” which is the fourth item among the five that make up the Precepts of Daesoon Jinrihoe. Hence, the goal of the activity was to “encourage Daesoon youths to reciprocate favors.” The participants of the camp cleaned at Daejin Nursing Facilities and held a morale-boosting performance during the hours that they volunteered. They learned and practiced a great deal for the dance and song performance in order to make sure the elders would enjoy it. After the volunteer work, many students shared that while volunteering, they had thought about their grandparents and were determined to do nice things for them after returning home from the camp.

The advent of Doju on December 4 conveys the holiness of the Orthodox Religious Authority that had been bestowed to Daesoon Lineage Holders directly by Heaven. Doju, who received the revelation of orthodox religious authority from Sangje (The Supreme God), generated the methods of cultivation, ceremonial procedures, andother regulations. At the end of his life, he passed the Orthodox Religious Authority to Dojeon (Holy Leader)Park Wudang with his last words prior to passing into heaven in 1958. *Daesoon Jichim: a summaryof Dojeon Park Wudang’s teachingswhich provides the guidelines for cultivation.
