- A Large Wildfire Broke Out in Goseong and Sokcho
On April 4, 2019, a large fire broke out in the regions of Goseong and Sokcho. According to a report issued by Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters of the Ministry of Public Administration and Safety, the fire burned its way through a landmass that is two times larger than Yeoui-do, setting ablaze 510 houses, 148 public facilities, and 71 house animal sheds, and leaving more than 1,000 people homeless. It was recorded as having inflicted some of the worst damage caused by a natural disaster in the modern history of Korea. The government declared ‘a state of disaster’ and made appeals for emergency aid and support to restore damaged areas and help those fleeing the fire. The fire spread over from Wonam-ri of Toseong-myeon to Ineung-ri and passed by Daesoon Jinrihoe’s Geumgangsan Toseong Training Temple Complex burning its gymnasium, storage, and animal shed. According to personnel at the Temple Complex, they were able to secure fire defense lines ahead of time as they had 16 outdoor hydrants installed outside the temple. They were able to protect the temple from further damage by releasing hydrant water before fire reached the temple. The estimated damage caused by the fire to Geumgangsan Toseong Training Temple Complex is around half a billion won.

- Oomoto Delegation Visited Daesoon Jinrihoe Yeoju Headquarters Temple
On April 8, Suzuki Eiichi, the chief director of Oomoto Headquarters, and Yano Hiromi, the director of Israel and Palestine Peace Institute, visited Yeoju Headquarters Temple Complex. On their visit for interreligious communication, Director Suzuki said “Ideas such as Sangsaeng, the Virtuous Concordance of Yin and Yang, and Harmonious Union between Divine Beings and Human Beings are very similar with some of Oomoto’s doctrines” and added “Through our interreligious efforts, I hope to make an opportunity to attract young people to join religious activities and help them take an interest in religions.” In his response, President Yun said “It is the long-cherished desire for all religions to bring peace to the world through Sangsaeng,” as he presented them with the Japanese translation of The Jeon-gyeong and added “I hope that we can work together and put our efforts into improving social welfare for our peoples.” After touring around the temple, the delegation participated in a Chiseong (Devotional Offering) held that night. The next day, they visited Daejin University and Daejin Girl’s HighSchool and departed back to Japan on April 10. Oomoto was founded in 1892 in Japan, and developed into a large religious movement that once had 9 million members. However, their influence weakened under the government suppression during Japan’s imperial era. There is a record that it had a contact with a Korean Jeungasnist order, Bocheongyo in 1924. Since 1925, Oomoto has been engaging in cooperative movements that promote world peace. Current estimates suggest that Oomoto has roughly 170 thousand followers today.
